Mr. Kahan is an experienced attorney at law from the United States. He received his B.A from Northwestern University, College of Arts and Sciences, in 1987 and J.D from New York Law School in 1990. At New York Law School, Mr. Kahan was an editor with the Journal of International and Comparative Law. Mr. Kahan is a member in good standing of the New Jersey (1990) and New York State (1991) Bar Associations. To start his career, Mr. Kahan primarily was a Civil trial attorney for two most highly rated law firms in Bergen Country, New Jersey. In 1998, Mr. Kahan left his law firm practice to pursue a new career path as an in house counselor in the business world. Mr. Kahan’s first position as an in house counsel was with Metricom, Inc., an emerging, high tech wireless Internet service provider that was building and deploying a nationwide network. At Metricom, Mr. Kahan was primarily responsible for negotiating with and obtaining licenses from local governments and businesses throughout the greater New York city metropolitan area for Metricom to legally deploy its patented network infrastructure. This involved much networking and negotiating with local politicians, government officials and attorneys. Following Metricom, Mr. Kahan was recruited to become General Counsel and Contract Manager with World-Link Inc., in New York, New York, a privately held, facilities based internationally focused telecommunications company, where he reported directly to the CEO. Mr. Kahan worked at World-Link for two years before realizing his ambition to transfer his substantial experience and skill set as a trial attorney and advocate, and in house counselor and manager, to the human rights space in the developing world. In July of 2003, Mr. Kahan was invited to interview with Mr. Sok Sam Oeun and the Executive Committee of the Cambodian Defenders Project and thereafter was offered the position of Legal and Development Advisor. Mr. Kahan has held this position with CDP in a full-time capacity for 3 years, and in a part-time capacity for 1 year. |
