Mr. Sok Sam Oeun was born in 17 September 1955, in Section 3, Phnom Penh. He is the Executive Director of CDP, an Attorney-at-Law, and a member of the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia. He has worked for CDP since its inception, in March 1994. At present, he is a candidate for Master of Business Administration. He was in military service for ten years (1979-1989) and trained as a Senior Commander in Malaysia. He then worked as a police officer and became Director of Khmer Police Training School of UNBRO (United National Border Relief Operation). In 1992, he was alos appointed Manager of the Security Liaison Officer of UNBRO and later that year Chief of UNBRO's Khmer Border Prison, Site II camp, where he was instrumental in establishing procedures and conditions that upheld the human rights of the prisoners. As a leader of civil society in Cambodia, Mr. Sok has attended numerous national and international workshops, seminars and conferences. He is fluent in four languages (Khmer, Thai, French and English) and is well versed in both the common law, civil law and socialist legal systems. He has provided commentary on several draft of laws to the Cambodian government and parliament. Apart from his work as Executive Director of CDP, Mr. Sok is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cambodian Human Rights Task Force, and member of the Board of Directors of COMFREL (Campaign for Free and Fair Elections) and the Khmer Youth Association (KYA). He is elected Chairman of Legislative Sub-Committee of Cambodian Human Rights Action Committee and Chairman of Legislative Sub-Committee of COMFREL. In 1999, he was elected as one of representatives of Cambodian NGOs to attend the Consultative Group Meeting in Paris between Donors and Royal Government of Cambodia. |
